Named after their favorite city (Tokyo) and the place where you can usually find them (hotel), Tokio Hotel was founded by two identical twin brothers, though you may not be able to tell. The older of the two, Tom, favors hip hop dress and dreads, a la Fieldy from rap-rock group Korn, while his little brother, Bill, prefers the androgynous frontman look, made popular by Mick Jagger and David Bowie, among many, many others. In fact, Bill’s look and big hair harken back to the days when Bon Jovi was huge (before he went country) and have helped him win such prestigious awards as “most attractive male singer.” Tokio Hotel cites a wide range of influences from Rod Stewart and Joe Cocker to Aerosmith and Megadeth, but their pop rock sounds, arena riffs, and fondess for robots makes them more similar to contemporaries Linkin Park. Their look and sound have helped the band to achieve several number one songs and albums, as well as selling nearly 5 million copies of DVDs and CDs in their home country of Germany and are now ready to conquer the rest of the world.
