Mariah. She has more #1 hits than Elvis and is second only to rock legends The Beatles overall. With her sugar sweet songs, diva antics, and amazing voice, Mariah Carey is a legend. She burst on to the scene in 1990 in Cinderella-like fashion when mogul (and future husband) Tommy Mottola discovered her at a party. Several pop allbums started to follow, and her first 5 singles went to #1. After splitting with Mottola in 97, her work started to take a turn in the hip hop direction. She worked with several rappers including Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Jermaine Dupri, and more. She became the only artist to have a hit in every year of the 90s and was named Billboard’s Artist of the Decade. The new millennium got off to a rough start for Carey with a panned movie and a reported physical and mental breakdown. The accompanying soundtrack to the movie was her worst US showing, despite collaborations with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, former R&B and pop icon Janet Jackson collaborators. But she returned to form in 2005 with the Grammy winning The Emancipation of Mimi and followed with E=MC2. In 2008, she married her “soulmate” Nick Cannon and soon after began work with The Dream on her new album.
