About Beyonce

Starting off as the lead singer of the R&B and Pop group Destiny’s Child, Beyonce has grown into her own 1 name superstardom. While the group was on hiatus, Beyonce released her solo debut Dangerously in Love, which debuted at #1 and spawned 3 hit singles. The album included the pop and R&B feel of Destiny’s Child, but also included more Hip Hop and Eastern sounds as well. Beyonce would go on to win 5 Grammys, tying her with Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill, and Norah Jones for most Grammys won by a single female artist. Just as Justin Timberlake could not go back to N*Sync, Beyonce could not return to Destiny’s Child, and the group soon disbanded. In 2005, Beyonce recorded several songs for the Movie Soundtrack to Dreamgirls , and then followed with her second album B’day, in both standard and deluxe versions, featuring Jay Z, Bun B, and Slim Thug, and Shakira. The album is certified 3x platinum and featured the hit “Irreplaceable”, which topped the Billboard charts for 10 straight weeks. B’day was followed by I Am…Sasha Fierce, inspired at least partly by her appearance in the film Cadillac Records where she played Etta James. Beyonce cites influences including Prince, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey , Mary J Blige, Diana Ross, Donna Summer, and Tina Turner. She has also gone on to influence several modern pop stars, such as Rihanna.
